I'd recommend figuring out something that works well, as I found myself not wanting to get the flask out because it was such a hassle trying to get it back in. I ended up wearing a Nathan vest through the last 25 at Wasatch, just to have a more convenient place to stash the flask. I've taped it to my water bottle in the past, and that worked out okay, but you have to get the positioning just right so it doesn't get in the way of your hand.

We've told the guys at First Endurance that they need to figure something out, or just package the stuff in individual gel packs like everyone else, but right now they're more geared to the biking/tri crowd so don't have it high on their list of priorities. Either way, the Liquid Shot is the best product I have used as far as gels go.

Nathan has a handheld setup for gel flasks, but that means you can only carry one water bottle, but its pretty sweet for shorter races.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07768257304687597320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-5327012788102177692010-09-15T20:31:25.129-07:002010-09-15T20:31:25.129-07:00Cool, thanks for the info Nick. I'm trying to figure out the best way to bring one along while only carrying two handhelds, but they don't fit in the handheld pouches. I got some Pearl Infinity shorts that have the zippered pocket in the back that fits them just barely, so I think that will work. Curious about your method though.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07489311127532059233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-30526580486604769512010-09-15T13:05:43.314-07:002010-09-15T13:05:43.314-07:00well done Nick! Every time I took a stumble or fall on the course there was a pretty sharp pain, and climbing over downed trees I had to be very careful. But definitely could have been worse. Good luck at the Bear!

Aaron - I use just the EFS liquid shot in a gel flask, and have been using a mix of one bottle water and one bottle water with a Nathan Catalyst tab mixed in, which is essentially an electrolyte supplement. I also use e-caps, but not as aggressively when I am carrying the Catalyst mix. In addition, I eat lots of fruit early from the aid stations - mainly oranges and bananas just to get some solids in there and to add to the electrolyte mix.Nickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07768257304687597320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-11079520986269569572010-09-13T16:00:29.284-07:002010-09-13T16:00:29.284-07:00Huge Congrats. I was wondering what happened there in following the splits online as you came in those aid stations early on behind Nick P all of a sudden. But it was really cool to 'virtually' see you rally and nail the finish so strong. W100 rocks for having such a great tracking of their race. Really enjoyed the report, thanks for sharing.

I'm curious about your fueling if you don't mind sharing...do you go through EFS liquid shots regularly along with EFS drink? Do you use Ultragen at all during a race? I have done a combo of all 3 of those in my past 2 excursions and found it quite effective, but am curious what has worked for you.Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07489311127532059233noreply@blogger.com
