Look forward to hearing more about it in person in a few days.

I thought I might be pushing things a bit with an ascent of Bear this morning, given the proximity of UTMB, but I guess I should have done a few laps to get in 12k like Kilian. Not sure if you have seen his latest quest, but apparently he does 20,000+ meters(!) of vertical a week. No wonder he floats uphills

Hope the knee is better, rest up for next weekend!nmphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02486058267340747104noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-80388711395158099612011-08-17T13:48:37.033-07:002011-08-17T13:48:37.033-07:00Tim - there are many things I would do differently...Tim - there are many things I would do differently to prepare for S-Z. Training would be much more focused on power and of course steep hill climbing. I would definitely carry some kind of fluid - one of those small handhelds would probably work well. People in the know had stuff stashed. The race could definitely have used a few more fluid stations. Most importantly I'd be sure to remember electrolytes. I had a fierce sweat going on the climb.

Definitely a great experience and one for the bucket list. Have fun this weekend at Leadville, BTW, and bring home the sub-20!

Tony - I'm sure you're right vis-a-vis the Euro hike. That too needs to be trained, and I just felt a little awkward hunched over like that.

Separately, It would appear that Kilian is planning a Mont Blanc speed attempt this Saturday, in addition to the rumor that he's eyeballing a sub-20 for UTMB!

Ian - good stuff, didn't realize you were coming out. See you in a few days.

Brian - I'll be turning around at the first glacier we come too.

Rick - I am told that course knowledge at 3 Peaks is highly advantageous, but yeah, another one for the bucket list - maybe in tandem with the Bob Graham Round.

Matt - that's just the way Glen races. Goes out hard and tries to hold on. It was pretty clear this weekend that he was going to get swallowed up pretty much immediately though.Nick Clarkhttp://www.irunmountains.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-28351209544470129532011-08-17T10:48:36.823-07:002011-08-17T10:48:36.823-07:00Really good stuff, Nick. Sounds like a great event, as are all the alpine races I've seen over there, but seriously competitive. Am going to enjoy watching you boys fight it out on the slopes of Mt Blanc then get in a year of training so I don't look like a muppet when I give it a go next year. See you in Chamonix in a week.sharmanianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14079178597179728898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4241238297532213032.post-89154246090891412022011-08-17T07:39:36.245-07:002011-08-17T07:39:36.245-07:00"ugly looking Euro hike"...but they use ..."ugly looking Euro hike"...but they use it because it is by far the most effective, I think, on the super-steeps.

I'd have a hard time saying no to the Mt.
